The German company e2m, a leader in the field of energy and local flexibility, is changing hands. The current shareholders sell the company and its subsidiaries to the French electricity producer EDF. Luther provided legal advice to the sellers.
Founded in 2009, energy2market GmbH (e2m) is an aggregator specialising in renewable energies and local flexibility and one of the market leaders in Germany. The company, which has 85 employees, has around 2,000 customers, mainly based in Germany, and manages as well as operates 4,500 networked and decentralised generation and consumption plants. e2m developed highly specialised technical and operational know-how and offers a wide range of services.
New owner Électricité de France SA (EDF) is a listed, state-dominated French company and the world's second largest electricity producer. With the acquisition, EDF aims to become the leading supplier of decentralised energy management in Europe.
A team from Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft led by partner Dr Thomas Kuhnle provided legal advice on the sale to the current shareholders of e2m, including global commodities trader TrailStone. The transaction still requires the approval of the European competition authorities.
