On 1 January 2025, Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) integrated the nephrology hospital previously run by the Nierenzentrum e. V. into its medical services, benefiting from the expertise of Luther's healthcare specialists.
New year, new care offering: From 1 January 2025, the renowned specialist clinic ‘Nierenzentrum Heidelberg’ will be operated by UKHD as the new Clinic X for Nephrology. The management boards of Nierenzentrum Heidelberg and UKHD signed the contract for the integration at the end of 2024. The Federal Cartel Office had previously approved this step under competition law in November 2023, enabling the two hospitals to prepare for the integration professionally over the past few months. Research and teaching will also benefit from the integration: a W3 professorship with a leadership role in nephrology at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg of Heidelberg University is to be established by mid-2025. The Nierenzentrum e.V. provided financial support for this.
The well-known team of experts led by Thomas Köhler and Dr Jan-David Jäger advised UKHD on both strategic and conceptual matters as well as on legal and tax issues in the course of the integration of the Nierenzentrum. With its essential know-how and extensive experience in university medicine, the team was able to make a significant contribution to the successful integration of the Nierenzentrum into UKHD. ‘With Luther's support, what belongs together has now grown together,’ says Dr Jan-David Jäger, project manager at Luther.
