Luther accompanies the Free State of Bavaria: Launch of the payment card system for asylum seeker benefits

Munich, 26 February 2024 – On 20 February 2024, the Free State of Bavaria awarded the contract for the introduction of the payment card for asylum seekers as part of an award procedure. This important project was successfully finalised with the support of Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft under procurement and payment law.

Financial technology meets social benefits

The introduction of the payment card system for asylum seekers in Bavaria sets new standards for the administration of benefits and emphasises the pioneering role of the Free State of Bavaria. It is intended to simplify access to financial resources for asylum seekers. At the same time, it is intended to limit the financing of smuggling offences.

The public procurement law team at Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft, led by lawyer Tobias Osseforth, supported the Free State of Bavaria through the technically and regulatory challenging project, in particular with the support of Caroline Ackermann and Jenny Schindler. The experts in payment transaction law, Dr Rolf Kobabe and Daniel Latta, were able to impress with their experience in the introduction of payment cards.
