Luther is advising the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Bezirksverband Unterfranken e. V. on the sale of its geriatric rehabilitation clinic

Luther advised the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Bezirksverband Unterfranken e. V. (AWO Unterfranken) on the sale of its geriatric rehabilitation clinic to the University Hospital of Würzburg. The successful completion of the transaction is an important step for the future provision of geriatric acute care in the Würzburg region.

Background

The team of specialists in transactions in the hospital sector, led by partner Thomas Köhler, advised the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Bezirksverband Unterfranken e. V. in cooperation with Clairfield International GmbH, initially in the context of a bidding process and subsequently on the sale of the Geriatric Rehabilitation Clinic to the University Hospital of Würzburg. The University Hospital is planning to set up a ‘Department for Acute Geriatrics and Geriatric Early Rehabilitation’ there, which will improve the care of older people in the region. The new department is scheduled to start operating on 1 January 2025 and will take on all of the approximately 200 employees of the former AWO rehabilitation clinic.

Under the project management of Dr Jan-David Jäger, Luther was once again able to demonstrate its comprehensive expertise in clinic transactions and benefited from its experience in advising both specialist hospitals and university hospitals. ‘With a great deal of commitment and professional know-how in various legal areas, Luther made a decisive contribution to the completion of the transaction as a reliable partner,’ says Martin Ulses, Managing Director of AWO Unterfranken.

The sale means that the districts of Würzburg, Kitzingen and Main-Spessart in Lower Franconia will now be able to offer geriatric, early rehabilitative complex treatment, which was previously unavailable in the area.
